Today is the day that millions will celebrate the rising of a man frorm the dead; millions will celebrate this and of those, very few will actually realize how strange it is.
Think about that. As an American, most of my country will blindly celebrate this day as the day Jesus rose from the dead, and nearly none of them will actually question the validity of that claim. Now if your best friend or most trusted relative came up to you and said that they had died a few days ago and just rose from the dead this morning, what would you think? Most likely, you would assume they are insane or just messing with you. Clearly the thought of rising from the dead is absurd, even from the lips of someone you trust as much as anyone on this planet. So why then do the masses never question Jesus rising from the dead?
The answer is, as it inevitably always is: the Bible says so. The Bible, an ancient book you will trust more than anyone you know, no matter how many times parts of it are disputed by real science or how many outlandish and non-sensical claims it makes, you will believe it more than your crazy friend who rose from the dead this morning.
I also blame the 'sanity-in-masses' argument. If not such a large group of people believed something like this, those who did would be more apt to be mocked for such a silly belief. Now I am not one to mock a religion outright (believe it or not), but a concept like rising frorm the dead is just a little too outlandish for me. If it was not a widely held belief, and someone said to you "My savior rose from the dead on this day many years ago", you would lump him in with Tom Cruise and tell him to go have his Thetans checked.
I also feel that this is a big reason why religions 'attack' our innocent at such a young age. I do not think it would be nearly as easy to convince an intelligent, free-thinking adult of absurdities such as this as it is an all-believing, trusting child. That is of course if it was possible to grow into adulthood without being surrounded by things like this all the time.
Just think, if you haden't heard that Jesus had risen from the dead ever before, and today was the first day someone had told you, would you believe it?
